For example, this magazine has a medium close up as its cover shot which makes it appealing as he is the main focus of the front cover. This medium close up shows his facial expression well as well as his body language. He looks chilled out and relaxed yet still looks quite cool.

This cover shot is a medium long shot. You cant see his whole body head to toe but from the waist upwards. This allows text to be written around the photo easier than if it was a close up as the text would overlap their face and maybe be hard to see the text. However, I dont think a medium long shot is as effective as a medium close up.

The shot used on this magazine is a long shot. This allows the reader to see their whole body which enables them to see the figure of their body. This is good for a front cover because it is then easy to place the text around the shape of the persons body on the photo. However, like a medium long shot I do not think it has the same effect of a medium close up or a close up.
The shot used on the magaizne is a close up. This close up shot tightly frames this person used to display detail. Close up's are used to show emotion or feelings of a person as the main focus is their face, so facial expression are important. This close up also suggests the person in the photo is important to the magazine.
After researcing cover shots for magaiznes, I will defenetly choose to use a medium close up as the shot on my magazine cover. For the genre of my magazine and its purposes, I think a medium close up will be most effective.
